The Dragon Boat Festival is one of the most traditional festivals in China which falls on May 5thin the Chinese Lunar Calendar, with rice dumplings as the most important symbol. The International School of ZBVI organized a series of activities of “Perceiving China, Building common dreams” this term, and “Approaching the local communities, Experiencing the Dragon Boat Festival”, held in Yingchun Community, is one of the activities. Students from Russia, Kazakhstan and other 11 countries participated in the tour.
The visit to the local community consisted of knowing the tradition, making rice dumplings, performing and writing Chinese calligraphy. With the visiting of the foreign students, the traditional activity in the local neighborhood showed a new look of multi-cultural atmosphere.
Beijing Opera is the most representative form of Chinese drama, which aroused great interest among the foreign students. The performers taught the students how to express “Thank you” and “shyness” in the forms of Beijing Opera with great patience, and the students learned with great care. This activity provided a platform for foreign students to experience the ancient Chinese culture face to face and disseminated the culture.
This visit left the overseas students a deep impression about ancient Chinese culture and the local community life, giving the local people an opportunity to know the variety of the world culture as well. It would certainly be an unforgettable memory for the overseas students.
